About The Event

Learning to code can open many doors for kids. It is becoming very widely known that understanding coding languages is a critical part of a childs education. In this class we will explore coding while we make a video game. Games are helpful because kids love them, it keeps them engaged, and they love to show them to other kids and family members. They are also very excited to extend, or add things, to the game to help reinforce the concepts that we learned.

In this class, we will build a game that also helps learn about Astrology. Help our hero navigate to each planet in the solar system as they search for the lost moon crystal. Their heros will face some challenges and obstacles along the way, learn a bit more about space and our solar system, and will have fun along the way!

We will focus on:

  • Being creative
  • Physics and Engineering
  • Critical Thinking
  • Problem Solving
  • Art and Digital Design
  • Coding!

Depending on the age and/or coding experience of the child, we will use one of: Block Programming, Javascript, or Python. We can discuss before the class starts to determine which one is appropriate. Kids will create different levels in their game as they learn about space and the solar system.

Each class will meet on the following Wednesdays from 5:15 PM - 6:30PM. Zoom links will be provided prior to the first class.

If a class has to be cancelled, we will schedule a make up date. Prior to the class starting you will receive a packet to get your machine set up. I will be available to make sure that your machine is set up correctly before class begins. You will need one of the following: Macbook, PC, or tablet that has access to a web browser and Zoom. A laptop is highly recommended.

Please also make sure that your child knows how to share their screen in Zoom. We will do demos from time to time and if we need to troubleshoot an issue it will make it much easier if they know how to share.

This event has a group. You’re welcome to join the group once you register for the event.
